If you're the proud new owner of a house in Spain, there's quite a bit on your to-do list. First off, sorting out electricity, water, sewage, internet, and home insurance is key.
Since our new casa is in the campo, it means no sewage or gas. So, focus on getting the electricity and water set up. Although, living in the campo might make water a bit tricky, especially if it's from a local well.
To get electricity and gas, you'll need a CUPS number, which is like an ID for your connections. With those numbers, you can pick any provider you want. We went with Octopus Energy for our electricity on a flexible contract.
The town hall manages water services, and they'll give you the provider's details when you buy the house. You'll need to ask for a change of title holder and share your bank details to set up the water.
As for internet, there are a few options available. I've had a great experience with Digi for their fast and affordable services. But if you're out in the campo, you might only have satellite internet like Starlink as a solid choice due to limited optic fiber and slow speeds on other satellite providers.
Don't forget, once you're signing for your mortgage, you'll need to sort out home insurance. It's a must, and you might want to look at online options like Tuio for a good deal.
Once these practicalities are out of the way, it's time to make your house a home. That might mean a bit of work, but it's all part of the adventure. Enjoy every moment!
Hasta luego mis amigos!
