After the disaster, I was confronted with countless harrowing stories, but what truly touched my heart, especially as a visitor from The Netherlands, was the overwhelming spirit of volunteerism that emerged in the wake of tragedy.
I vividly recall the images and videos of the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias bustling with passionate volunteers eager to make a difference. There were streams of people crossing the bridge, united in their mission to help cleanse and restore the villages hardest hit by the catastrophe. It filled me with hope to witness such genuine compassion and solidarity for those whose lives had been turned upside down.
Although we tried to pitch in by assisting with the cleanup, the police overseeing access roads were quite stringent, making our attempts challenging. Nevertheless, we didn’t let that deter us; instead, we focused on what we could contribute. We gathered supplies, donated food, and even prepared meals for the tireless volunteers on the ground. Our desire to help was unwavering, and we were determined to do whatever we could.
In closing, I want to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has stepped up in any capacity. You are the embodiment of heroism, and your actions remind me that kindness still reigns. Keep shining and doing the incredible work you’re doing—know that we’re here to support and uplift you in every way we can!
Hasta luego, mis amigos!
